Bahria Town’s Properties to be Auctioned on August 7

As per the latest updates, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced a major update. NAB recently announced a public auction on August 7, 2025, on all Bahria Town properties owned by Malik Riaz, Pakistan’s top real estate tycoon. Moreover, the auction of 6 Bahria Town properties is going to take place in NAB’s Office in G-6/1 sector of Islamabad, following formal approval by the Islamabad High Court.

  • Safari Club (Rs1.2bn)
  • Arena Cinema (Rs1.1bn)
  • Bahria Town International Academy (Rs1.07bn)
  • Rubaish Marquee & Lawn near the Garden City Golf Course (Rs488m)
  • Bahria Town Corporate Offices (Plots 7-D and 7-E, Park Road, Phase II) (Rs871m)

Why is NAB Auctioning Bahria Town Properties?

According to the sources, the properties of Malik Riaz are reserved for auction, as a result of being declared an absconder, which means being an escapee or runaway to other places due to the Al-Qadir Trust case 190 million.

However, Malik Riaz still stated that he is all set for any settlement or agreement if they are given the opportunity to come back to a serious discussion and an efficient solution. He further added that the government agencies have been pressuring them for several months.

As a result, the authorities have arrested numerous members of the Bahria Town. They have also frozen the company’s bank accounts and seized all their vehicles, affecting the overall operations of Bahria Town in Pakistan.

Malik Riaz’s Response

In a statement, Malik Riaz claimed:

“We are being forced to shut down all Bahria Town operations across Pakistan. Trillions in investments by millions of Pakistanis are frozen.”

 

He expressed willingness to settle but accused authorities of “unjust pressure.”

Mr. Farooq H. Naik, the senior lawyer of Bahria Town, has clarified that the auction bahria town’s notice of NAB is truly unlawful and misleading. He added that the properties of Bahria Town were targeted by the authority unnecessarily and wrongfully. He further claimed that NAB is unfairly dragging the Bahria Town’s name in the £190 million case.

On the return, Rafay Maqsood, NAB’s prosecutor, also added that after entering the plea bargain, Malik Riaz, along with his son Ali Riaz, have defaulted on a considerable amount of payments. As a result, NAB has decided to take action and recover the amount from them under Section 33E of the NAB Ordinance, 1999.

It is worth mentioning that as a result of the Bahria Town properties NAB auction, the successful bidders are required to pay around 5% of the property value on the same auction day. Then, they need to pay 10% in a month, and then the remaining 85% in the next 3 months.
