Youm-e-Takbeer – 28 May

In Pakistan, Youm-e-Takbeer is celebrated as a national day on May 28 in honour of the Chagai-I and Chagai-II series of nuclear tests. After this huge achievement, Pakistan has become the 7th nation to own nuclear weapons and the first in the Muslim world.

Moreover, Muslims use the Youm-e-Takbeer phrase is used by Muslims in various conditions. In the Islamic world, instead of applause, usually, people will shout Takbeer or Nara-e-Takbir, whereas, in response, the crowd will say Allahu Akbar (God is great).

However, the government of Pakistan asked for proposals from the nation as they wanted to give a name to this special day which they would celebrate. Considering that, they launched a country-wide campaign with the aim of choosing the perfect name for this special day.

In addition, millions of Pakistani people proposed thousands of names. However, most of the people proposed this Youm-e-Takbeer name for this particular day, which holds immense respect for Pakistan.

Many people received the Prime Minister Award as a result of appreciation for suggesting a perfect name for this day. Furthermore, Youm-e-Takbeer is translated as “The day of greatness” or “The day of God’s greatness.”
